Badagry LG Chairman Pledges Support For NUJ Community Radio

The Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has pledged his support for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lagos State Council, in its plan to construct an edifice to house the long-awaited NUJ Community Radio in Ajido Badagry.

Hunpe made the commitment during a courtesy visit by executive members of the NUJ and members of the Media Investment Committee to his office on Thursday.

The Chairman who acknowledged the uniqueness of the journalism profession, described the establishment of the NUJ Community Radio as a step in the right direction.

“We will not disappoint the NUJ for bringing this laudable initiative to Ajido Badagry. We shall work together because, when the building is completed, the radio station will enable us to compete with other parts of Lagos in terms of information dissemination.

“This will bring significant development to Badagry as a whole. As a result of this, we shall support NUJ in building the edifice,” he said.

Hunpe further noted that the project would help create job opportunities for indigenes especially the youth, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the area.

He also commended Chief Adeyinka Amosun, the Asiwaju of Ajido Kingdom and former Zonal Director of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, who accompanied the delegation.

He commended Amosun for his selfless service and immense contributions to the development of Badagry and its environs, describing him as a man of impeccable character whose benevolence and commitment knew no bounds.

In his remarks, Lagos NUJ Chairman Mr Adeleye Ajayi, lauded Hon Hunpe for his outstanding contributions to national development during his time at the National Assembly.

Ajayi described the Chairman as a man of substance who is result-oriented and passionate about community development.

The NUJ Chairman was presented with a plaque by Hon. Hunpe in recognition of his resilience and commitment to community development.

Other members of the NUJ delegation included Philip Nwosu; Vice Chairman; Tunde Olalere; Secretary; Olayide Awosanya; Assistant Secretary,; Alaba Igbaroola; Ex-Officio,; and Gbenga Fatile; Chairman, Media Investment Committee.
