“As a former Internal Auditor and Financial Secretary of NUJ Lagos State Council, he discharged his duties with uncommon diligence, transparency, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.

“He was widely respected for his humility, simplicity, and gentle disposition qualities that endeared him to colleagues across generations. His active participation in union affairs and his passion for the welfare of members set a standard of service and camaraderie that will continue to inspire us.
“The Lagos State Council extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire media community. We pray that God grants them the strength to bear this irreparable loss and grants the soul of our departed comrade eternal rest.
“Your legacy of integrity and service will forever remain in our hearts.
“Adieu, Comrade Ariyo Akinola”, the statement concludes.

In a very grieving tone, the chairperson of the Photojournalists Association of Nigeria, Princess Alaba Igbaraola described Ariyo’s sudden death as an arrow in the heart. Comrade Ariyo, popularly called ‘Aribobo’ was a very dedicated member of PJAN, whose invaluable wise counsel will be sorely missed. As a foundation member of PJAN, Ariyo had never wavered in ensuring that the association got to the position it is today. As a mark of honour for the committed elder in PJAN, the association has postponed indefinitely, its annual end of year symposium scheduled for December 12, 2025 in Lagos.

In his condolence message, Mr. Wahab Oba, a former chairman of NUJ, Lagos Council, wrote; “So sad and shocking. Mr Ariyo was not just a prolific photojournalist with the New Nigeria Newspaper; he was a committed unionist, a loyal compatriot, and a natural mobiliser who believed passionately in collective decision-making. I had the privilege of working with him, first as Vice Chairman and later as Chairman of the NUJ, Lagos State Council, and he served with humility, integrity, and uncommon dedication.
His passing is a huge loss to the media family, the NUJ community, and everyone who encountered his gentle spirit and unwavering professionalism.
May Almighty God grant him eternal rest, forgive his shortcomings, and comfort his family, colleagues, and friends during this difficult period.
A truly sad and painful day for all of us.
Aribobo, goodbye!”
