Photojournalists Association of Nigeria.
PJAN was mid-wifed by a crop of dedicated photojournalists led by Pete Makinde (New Nigerian Newspaper), Chief Gbolahan Ajayi-Bembe (Newswatch Magazine), Tunde Awoniyi (Daily Times Newspaper) and Japhet Ogundojutimi (National Concord Newspaper).
After series of meetings at the Daily Times office on Kakawa Street, Lagos Island, between 1990 and 1992, some officers were elected to pivot the running of the association until formal launching. The inauguration of the new association finally took place on April 6th 1993 at the Lagos City Banquet Hall, with Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako, the then vice-chairman of the Supreme Military Council, the highest ruling organ in Nigeria then as the special guest of honour; ably supported by the then President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mallam Zanni Zorro.
The following were the first executive committee members: Chief Gbolahan Ajayi-Bembe (National Chairman), Dapo Adesina (1st vice chairman), Razaq Hamza (2nd vice chairman), Tunde Awoniyi (National Secretary), Jimmy Adefolalu (Asst. Secretary), Japhet Ogundojutimi (National Treasurer), Alh. Olumide Hammed (Fin. Secretary), Bioye Oyewande (Publicity Secretary), Felix Oweih (Ass. Pub/Sec), Rahman Sanusi (Auditor I), Femi Ilesanmi (Auditor II), Akiyele Okundare (Chief Whip), Gani Ayeni (Ex-Officio) and Olufemi Kayode (Ex-Officio).
