NUJ Lagos to Honour LCDA Chairman Seyi Jakande for Leadership Excellence

The ‌ (NUJ), Lagos State Council, is set to honour the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr. Seyi Jakande, in recognition of his purposeful leadership and developmental strides in the Ilupeju and Mushin areas of Lagos State.

The award, according to the NUJ Lagos State Council, is in recognition of Jakande’s performance and contributions to the development of the LCDA since he assumed office a year ago. The statement was signed by Wale Akodu and Moses Omorogieva, the
Chairman and secretary of NUJ Lagos Council Press Week Committee.

The council noted that the award was also a recognition of Jakande’s commitment to public service and his efforts to sustain the legacy of his late father, the former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, whose administration was widely associated with people-oriented policies and social development programmes.

Since assuming office as Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Dr. Seyi Jakande’s administration has introduced a number of initiatives targeted at improving the welfare and living conditions of residents, particularly children, youths and vulnerable members of the community.

Among the initiatives are free bus services for primary school pupils, a free meal programme every Friday for pupils in the 27 primary schools within the LCDA, as well as the distribution of free textbooks and writing materials to pupils.

The administration has also focused on improving primary healthcare services, youth empowerment and sports development. Sporting competitions have been organised as part of efforts to promote youth engagement, discover talents and encourage productive use of leisure time.

In the area of security and environmental improvement, the council administration has embarked on the construction and installation of streetlights in previously poorly lit areas, particularly locations identified as dark spots. The initiative is aimed at improving visibility at night and supporting security efforts within the community.

Security personnel have also been deployed to strategic locations to complement efforts to monitor and deter criminal activities around the LCDA.

The NUJ Lagos State Council observed that the administration’s programmes have had significant implications for human development, particularly in the education sector, where interventions such as free transportation, meals, textbooks and writing materials are helping to reduce the financial burden on parents and guardians.

The council said the award was intended to acknowledge the administration’s documented initiatives and its emphasis on programmes targeted at improving the welfare of residents within the LCDA.

The honour is expected to form part of the activities of the NUJ Lagos State Council as it continues to recognise individuals and organisations contributing to community development and public service in Lagos State.
